What is Laser Spine Surgery?

Laser Spine Surgery, scientifically known as Percutaneous Laser Disc Decompression (PLDD), is an outpatient minimally invasive technique where laser energy is used to vaporize a small portion of the disc nucleus.

By reducing internal disc volume and pressure, the herniated portion of the disc retracts away from the inflamed spinal nerve root, providing relief from back pain and radiating sciatica symptoms.

How It Works:

Under local anesthesia and real-time fluoroscopic X-ray guidance, a thin needle is inserted into the herniated disc. A flexible laser fiber is threaded through the needle. Laser pulses are delivered to vaporize the targeted disc tissue without any surgical incisions or bone removal.

Benefits of Laser Spine Surgery:

  • No Open Cuts: Only a needle puncture is required.
  • Performed Under Local Anesthesia: Ideal for elderly or medically high-risk patients.
  • Day-Care Procedure: Patients return home within a few hours.
  • Preserves Spinal Stability: No bone or ligament removal.
Honest Clinical Candidate Selection

Dr. Siddharth Katkade conducts a thorough MRI evaluation to determine if your disc pathology is suitable for laser decompression, or if endoscopic surgery/microdiscectomy is clinically superior for complete long-term cure.
